Coach's Corner - Ben Griffith

In this episode of Coach’s Corner, we explore the second major influence on our triple shoot offense—Ben Griffith. A Tennessee native and former high school coach in Georgia, Ben was among the first hires at Georgia Southern University under legendary coach Erk Russell. There, he played a key role in developing the innovative "Ham Bone" offense, a hybrid of the triple option and run-and-shoot concepts, which helped shape future offensive strategies. Notably, Paul Johnson, who later had success at Georgia Tech, was one of his early protégés. I had the privilege of learning directly from Ben while coaching at Kansas State, where he mentored me on the intricacies of both offensive schemes. His influence was instrumental in my success, including leading the top-ranked offense in college football at Hofstra. As we move forward with the Ohio Valley Ironmen, Ben’s teachings will be evident in our gameplay, and I look forward to sharing more insights in future episodes.
